Hiking at Stony Brook

Julia and I headed over to the Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuary this morning, hoping to join a children's program.  However, when we got there, we were told this morning's program had been cancelled.  Not to worry - we could still go for a hike!  As members of the Mass Audubon, Julia was able to use a "borrow bag" on our hike, which had a map, binoculars and a scavenger hunt chart.  Here she is, ready to go!
We hiked an easy loop around two of the ponds.  Stony Brook is where Julia and Evelyn attended a summer day camp in July, so Julia was very familiar with the trail, and she led the way.
We saw several geese on this pond, and Julia looked on her scavenger hunt chart to mark them off.
We spotted two great blue herons on this pond.  They were having a spat and chasing each other around the marsh.
We stopped for a self-portrait along the trail...
And here's one last look at one of the ponds we hiked around.  It was a gorgeous day for an hour-long hike, all led by a sweet little 5-year-old.
