Honors Band Auditions

This morning Evelyn auditioned for the district honors band.  Auditioning was completely optional, up to each individual student.  Evelyn was given the audition song options about a month and a half ago, and she had to learn and practice her chosen song completely on her own (no practice time at school for the audition songs).  She played through all six choices for a week before deciding on "Camptown Races."  Evelyn had also considered playing "Baa, Baa Black Sheep," but she decided against it because it was too easy.  She wanted to play a more difficult song to impress the judge.

How did it go?  After playing "Camptown Races," the judge gave Evelyn mostly good feedback and a few pointers on how to better hold her clarinet - she is, after all, only a first-year clarinet player.  She will receive the official evaluation and award in a week or two.  She is hoping for a superior rating and a blue ribbon, as well as a spot in the honors band that will give a concert in the spring. We'll just have to wait and see!
