The Badlands

We made it!  This was an impromptu stop because I wasn't sure if we would make it to the Badlands with enough time to explore the park, but we made it!
It was a typical July afternoon in the Badlands - sunny, hot and about 95 degrees.
I limited our out-of-car excursions to ten minutes because it was just too hot to stay out much longer than that.  (And we drank LOTS of water!)
As with most scenic places, pictures don't do justice to the amazing beauty we saw.
Every time I would stop to take a picture, I would tell the girls, "Just one more stop," hinting that it would be the last stop.
Naturally, I would have to stop at the next scenic overlook and take just one more picture.
The girls especially enjoyed looking at the bands of sedimentary rock and how the layers continued across the hills and peaks.  One of the most interesting tid-bits that they learned was that these Badlands erode one inch per year.
Since the Badlands are a National Park, you know the girls earned their Junior Ranger badges today!
