Evelyn has never been as nervous about the first day of school as she was for her first day of 4th grade. There were so many unknowns - riding the bus, having a teacher she had never met, going to school with a bunch of new kids, etc. At one point, Evelyn asked if I would homeschool her. We all knew she would be fine, it was just a matter of getting through the first day.
Getting ready for school this morning went smoothly. Evelyn didn't have any tears, and she was all smiles for the obligatory first-day-of-school pictures.
Evelyn chose today's outfit, which is so cute. So Evelyn. Here's the Peanut in our front yard, ready for the walk to the bus stop.
We have to walk up a hill, past three houses, to get to the bus stop. In this picture, I have to point out Evelyn's backpack - her Land's End backpack that is going on its fifth year and still looks great!
While waiting at the bus stop with the rest of the neighborhood kids, Evelyn got teary-eyed two or three times, which made me emotional, too. She was a nervous wreck. I kept reminding her to remember the name of her teacher and her bus number...as long as she knew those two things, everything else would be okay.
I was a nervous wreck today, thinking about Evelyn riding the bus to school for the first time, meeting all the new students in her class, adjusting to the recess and lunch procedures, and so on. When it was time to pick her up from the bus stop this afternoon, I was very anxious to see her. What was Evelyn like when she got off the bus? All smiles - the day went great! She's looking forward to the rest of the week (and year) of school. Whew!
